The Suffrage Movement

About

Ginni Davis

Ginny Davis has been part of the feminist community since she was young, ever since her parents taught her how to stand up for women's rights and the things she cares about. Ginny lives in an assisted living home in Encinitas, right up the street from her daughter and two granddaughters. She is very passionate about getting people to vote especially women. She volunteers in her community to inform people how to vote, and which causes and officials they're voting for. She is part of an organization that helps senior citizens who are unaware of how to vote or whom to vote for to gain the tools they need to make educated and smart decisions. Ginny's mission is to make sure that everyone's voice is heard, and she believes that this can be accomplished by getting people to vote.

How It Works

Reflection

Learning about the suffrage movement was very interesting and impactful. It was fascinating to learn about the women who fought so hard for rights that I don't even have to think about. Especially as of late when rights are being taken away, such as access to basic health care needs like abortions, it is inspirational to see how hard the suffragists worked and how they didn't give up the fight for the right to vote.

I personally have been involved in many fights for action for women's rights from when I was young, going to women's marches, writing letters, making signs and hats, attending my school's girl rising club, and more. Even though there are still many rights that we have yet to acquire, we have come so far from where we started. It is amazing to learn about how hard the suffragettes fought for our right to vote, and it was also amazing to hear from Ginny, about how women now are still fighting for our basic rights. I learned a lot from this project and learning about all the work the suffragists put into gaining the right to vote has become a huge inspiration for me to never give up fighting for the things I care about.
